What is “Zero Waste?”

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, zero waste is defined as, "The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health."

This year, LRS is helping the Bears launch their first-ever zero waste Training Camp, by shifting away from landfill heavy systems to high diversion, circular solutions. LRS' definition of zero waste is that "Anything that can be recycled is being recycled, and anything that can be composted is being composted." It's not that there's no trash, but it's that we're doing everything we can to divert as much as possible from Bears Training Camp. With LRS, waste is no longer a back-end problem it's a front-line opportunity.

The best site to use for educational resources on waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability is the LRS Recycling 101. LRS do not directly define zero waste.
