Ted Monachino has left the Bears after two seasons as outside linebackers coach to serve in the same capacity with the Atlanta Falcons under new head coach Arthur Smith.

In announcing the move Tuesday night, the Falcons also revealed that they have hired Jon Hoke as defensive backs coach. Hoke spent six seasons in that role with the Bears from 2009-14. Since leaving Chicago, he has coached defensive backs at South Carolina (2015), with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-18) and at Maryland (2019-2020).

Monachino joined the Bears in 2019, reuniting with defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano. The two had worked together as defensive assistants with the Baltimore Ravens in 2010-11 and with the Indianapolis Colts in 2016-17, with Pagano serving as head coach and Monachino as defensive coordinator.

Pagano recently announced his retirement Jan. 13 after 36 years in coaching—18 in the NFL and 18 at the collegiate level. Last Friday the Bears promoted safeties coach Sean Desai to replace Pagano as defensive coordinator.

The Falcons have now hired four former Bears assistants in less than a week. Last Friday Bears passing game coordinator Dave Ragone became Atlanta's offensive coordinator and longtime running backs coach Charles London was named Falcons quarterbacks coach.
