The Bears on Friday signed veteran guard/center Dylan Gandy to a one-year contract.
Gandy, 32, has appeared in 120 games with 19 starts over nine NFL seasons with the Colts (2005-07), Broncos (2008), Raiders (2008) and Lions (2009-13). The 6-3, 295-pounder was selected in the fourth round of the 2005 draft by Indianapolis out of Texas Tech.
Gandy played as a reserve in the Colts' 29-17 win over the Bears in Super Bowl XLI. Over the past four seasons he has appeared in 63 of 64 games—all as a backup—with the Lions.
To make room on their roster for Gandy, the Bears waived defensive end Jamil Merrell, an undrafted rookie free agent from Rutgers.
