The Bears on Saturday signed safety Anthony Walters to their 53-man roster and defensive end Jamil Merrell to their practice squad.
Walters appeared in 33 games with one start for the Bears from 2011-13, recording eight tackles and two tackles-for-loss. On special teams the 6-1, 207-pounder compiled 21 tackles and one fumble recovery. He spent the 2014 preseason with the Arizona Cardinals.
Merrell is an undrafted rookie out of Rutgers who spent parts of the 2014 offseason with the Bears and Titans. He appeared in 34 games with 18 starts over four seasons at Rutgers, collecting 81 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 16 tackles-for-losses, one forced fumble and four pass breakups.
