Bears supporting Wounded Warriors Project

In recognition of Veterans Day, the Bears have joined with the Chicago Bulls to support Wounded Warrior Project at their "Stars and Strikes" event Monday evening at Pinstripes in Northbrook.

Approximately 35 Wounded Warriors who have recently returned from service in Iraq and Afghanistan will enjoy dinner, drinks, bowling and bocce. Those scheduled to attend include the Bears' entire rookie class, led by Shea McClellin and Alshon Jeffery, as well as former Bears Desmond Clark and Jay Hilgenberg.

The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Its purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

Help raise money: This past summer, the city of Chicago served as the backdrop for the inaugural Madden NFL 13 Skills Challenge at Grant Park. EA Sports would like to thank Chicago for hosting the event by donating up to $100,000 to Bears Care.

The challenge will be shown from 8-9 p.m. (CT) Tuesday on ESPN and 7-8 p.m. (CT) Wednesday on ESPN2. For each tweet and retweet that contains the hashtag #Madden13Skills during the airing times, EA Sports will donate $1 up to $100,000.

Costume contest: Fans can enter the Believe in Monsters Halloween Costume Contest on the official Chicago Bears Facebook page through Sunday.

They can submit a photo of themselves, their child or their pet dressed as a favorite monster or in Bears gear for the chance to win a Monsters of the Midway throwback prize including an autographed Brandon Marshall jersey, a DROID RAZR M, and Chicago Bears Traditions gear.

Back to school: Running back Armando Allen is scheduled to appear at South Loop Elementary, nickel back D.J. Moore will visit Orr Academy High School and guard Chilo Rachal will appear at Harper High School in Chicago Tuesday in support of the Bears School Outreach program.

Through a partnership with Youth Guidance, Bears players will visit various Chicago public schools to speak to, motivate and interact with students who are part of the B.A.M (Becoming a Man) and W.O.W. (Working on Womanhood) programs.

The theme for player visits is character development, goal setting, commitment to excellence, and the importance of secondary education. The Bears School Outreach Program is in its 15th season and is brought to you by the University of Phoenix, the Official Education Partner of the Chicago Bears.

Fuel up: Quarterback Jason Campbell, center Roberto Garza and cornerback Charles Tillman will join students at Ridge Family Center for Learning in Elk Grove on Tuesday.

The players will participate in a pep rally and fitness stations with students during the filming of a 30-second national TV feature for NFL PLAY 60 and Kinect for Xbox 360, which will air in November.

Ridge Family Center for Learning was selected as the national winner of the Fuel Up to PLAY 60 Casting Call Challenge for their exemplary efforts to eat healthy and get active. Included in the grand prize was the opportunity to appear in the NFL TV feature.

Pizza party: Safety Major Wright will appear at Waukegan High School Friday evening to help raise funds for Lake County Area Project (LCAP). Fans will have the opportunity to meet Wright, participate in a Q & A session, and enjoy games, a raffle for autographed items and a pizza dinner.

Tickets for the event are $25 and can be purchased at the door or at www.majorspizzaparty.eventbrite.com. A portion of the proceeds will benefit LCAP, a subsidiary of DuCAP, an organization that empowers local residents to engage youth to make positive choices while strengthening communities.
