Chalk Talk: Did any ex-Bears play in Super Bowl?

Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.

Did any former Bears play in the Super Bowl? I didn't notice any.
Barry T.
Romeoville, Illinois

No former Bears played in the Super Bowl, but one won a ring. The Patriots backup quarterback is Brian Hoyer, who played for the Bears in 2016. As you'd imagine, Hoyer didn't get much work this season as Tom Brady's backup, completing just 1 of 2 passes for seven yards. But Hoyer, in his second stint with New England, earned a championship ring.

When was the last time the Bears had two players they drafted in the same round go to the Pro Bowl together like Eddie Jackson and Tarik Cohen did this year?
Peter K.
Hammond, Indiana

The last time that happened prior to this season was when defensive end Richard Dent and guard Mark Bortz were voted to the Pro Bowl in 1990. Dent and Bortz were both selected by the Bears in the eighth round of the 1983 NFL Draft.

How many current Bears players have won a Super Bowl?
Eddie T.
Chicago Heights, Illinois

Four Bears players have won the Super Bowl. Tight end Trey Burton threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Nick Foles on fourth-and-goal on a play dubbed "The Philly Special" to lead the Eagles to a 41-33 win over the Patriots to cap the 2017 season. Linebacker Danny Trevathan recorded eight tackles and recovered two fumbles to help the Broncos beat the Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50 in 2015. Cornerback Prince Amukamara also won a Super Bowl as a rookie with the Giants in 2011, as did backup quarterback Chase Daniel as a rookie with the Saints in 2009.
