Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.
What was your biggest takeaway from this year's NFL Combine?
Paul T.
Crete, Illinois
I can sum that up in one word, Paul: Speed. There were 31 prospects who were timed in under 4.4 in the 40-yard dash last week in Indianapolis, the most ever at a Combine. Eight receivers ran a sub-4.4, the most receivers since eight also accomplished the feat in 2007. Baylor's Tyquan Thornton led the group with a 4.28. Thornton's college teammate, cornerback Kalon Barnes, was clocked at 4.23, the second fastest 40 in Combine history behind receiver John Ross' 4.22 in 2017. Jordan Davis, a 6-6, 341-pound defensive lineman from Georgia, ran a 4.78, the fastest by any prospect over 310 pounds since at least 2003. And Virginia Tech's Amare Barno was timed at 4.36, the fastest by a defensive lineman since at least 2003.
When do you expect the NFL to release its regular-season schedule?
Greg F.
Iowa
While the NFL had released its regular-season schedule in mid-April for several years, last year the announcement came May 12 and I expect similar timing this year. The Bears already know who they'll play in 2022, just not when. In addition to home and away games against the Packers, Lions and Vikings, they'll host the Eagles, Commanders, Bills, Dolphins, Texans and 49ers; and visit the Cowboys, Giants, Patriots, Jets and Falcons.
Which Bears player ran the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine?
Steve P.
Highland Park, Illinois
He wasn't drafted by the Bears, but receiver Marquise Goodwin recorded the fastest 40 by someone who has played for the team, running a 4.27 in 2013 that remains the eighth fastest time in Combine history.
