How has Sanzenbacher performed?

Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.

What kind of camp is Dane Sanzenbacher having and what are his chances of making the 53-man roster?

From rteem23 on Twitter

Receiver Dane Sanzenbacher has been performing very well in training camp for the second straight summer. I know he dropped some passes during his rookie season last year, but he's been catching everything thrown his way in Bourbonnais. He also seems to be a little more explosive in his run-after-the-catch. It will be very interesting to see how Sanzenbacher fares when given opportunities in preseason games. The Bears overhauled their receiver group during the offseason, but I still think Sanzenbacher has a chance to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. Being a reserve, a lot will depend on how much he contributes on special teams. I felt heading into camp he faced an uphill battle to make the team, but I think he's got a much better chance now given how he has performed coupled with Devin Thomas surprisingly telling the Bears he was leaving camp on Sunday.
Will the Bears use Devin Hester in the slot like the Patriots use Wes Welker?

From jfunes78 on Twitter

I imagine that the Bears will use Devin Hester all over the field, including both in the slot and lined up outside. I'm sure that offensive coordinator Mike Tice won't exactly go out of his way in the preseason to show exactly what he has in mind with Hester, but I do know that receivers coach Darryl Drake has talked about getting the ball in Hester's hands more and allowing him to make plays like he has done with extraordinary success in the return game. Hester has always performed very well as a receiver in training camp and vows to carry it over to the regular season by remaining calm and not pressing. I think it will help knowing that he doesn't have to be "the guy" now that three-time Pro Bowler Brandon Marshall is here.

How do you feel about the depth at quarterback with Jason Campbell?

From Jmax1122 on Twitter

Like I wrote last week, it says a lot about a guy when an NFL team signs a backup quarterback on the very first day of free agency. I've been very impressed with Jason Campbell in training camp. He has an incredibly smooth delivery, a strong arm and great touch. He also isn't afraid to pull the ball down and run with it. If Jay Cutler does get injured this season, I'm confident that Campbell will be able to step in and do the job.
