Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans on ChicagoBears.com.
The Bears have signed a number of players from the Super Bowl-winning Broncos of last year. How many Bears currently on the roster have been a member of a Super Bowl-winning team?
Terry H.
Glendale, Arizona
By my count, there are nine players on the Bears roster who have won a Super Bowl: Cornerback Tracy Porter with the Saints in 2009; safety Antrel Rolle with the Giants in 2011; outside linebacker Pernell McPhee and receiver Deonte Thompson with the Ravens in 2012; defensive linemen Greg Scruggs (on the physically unable to perform list) and D'Anthony Smith (on the practice squad) with the Seahawks in 2013; and linebacker Danny Trevathan, safety Omar Bolden and long-snapper Aaron Brewer with the Broncos in 2015.
Why isn't Josh Bellamy included on the roster and still listed as a free agent?
Scott H.
Receiver Josh Bellamy is an exclusive free agent who was tendered a contract by the Bears. He has not yet officially signed the deal, which is just a formality the way I understand it given that exclusive free agents are not permitted to negotiate with other NFL teams. So unless Bellamy is planning to retire from football, he'll be back with the Bears in 2016 and will be added to the roster as soon as he signs on the dotted line.
I bought tickets to the Miller Lite Draft Party this year and was curious who would be there. I remember last year Mike Ditka and "Big Cat" Williams were there.
Colby R
Bears Hall of Famers Mike Ditka and Dick Butkus (both of whom originally joined the team as first-round draft picks by the way) are scheduled to attend this year's draft party at Soldier Field. They are among a group of several current and former Bears players who are expected to be on hand. I will include a complete list in a story I post on our website in the near future.
