Injury Update: Bears dealing with injuries on offensive line

braxton-teven-injury-update-2024-week-16

Injuries are impacting the Bears offensive line as they prepare for Sunday's home game against the Lions.

Two starters are listed as questionable for the NFC North matchup in left tackle Braxton Jones (concussion) and left guard Teven Jenkins (calf), while reserve center/guard Ryan Bates (concussion) has been ruled out of the contest.

Jones sat out Monday night's game in Minnesota and would not have been able to participate had the Bears held a regular practice instead of a walk-through Wednesday. He returned to work out Friday without restrictions.

Asked if he was optimistic about Jones playing against the Lions, interim coach Thomas Brown said: "As much as I can be. We'll see how it goes though."

Jenkins was limited in practice Friday after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday.

"We'll see how it goes the next couple days," Brown said. "We'll see how it goes tomorrow and also Sunday before the game."

Cornerback Jaylon Johnson is questionable due to an illness that prevented him from practicing Friday. Said Brown: "I feel good about him playing on game day. We'll see how the next couple days go."

Defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. (knee) is also questionable. He was limited in practice Friday after being sidelined Wednesday and Thursday.

Running back Travis Homer sustained a hamstring injury in Friday's workout and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game.

However, running back Roschon Johnson is expected to return after missing two games with a concussion. He practiced all week without restrictions and was not given a designation on the injury report.

"When it comes to the running back spot, you want to be able to have enough depth there because you have different guys in that room from a body-type standpoint," Brown said. "Roschon made a big hit this year when it comes to short yardage, goal line, getting the tough yards."
