Just like ESPN colleague Todd McShay did earlier this week, Mel Kiper Jr. posted a mock draft in which he makes the selections himself based on what he believes is best for each NFL team.
Given the opportunity to step into Bears general manager Ryan Pace's shoes, Kiper would select Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson with the eighth pick in the first round and Georgia outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter with the 39th choice in Round 2.
"Nelson makes a ton of sense in Chicago, as his former position coach at Notre Dame, Harry Hiestand, joined the Bears this offseason," Kiper wrote. "I expect Chicago to take a close look at Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, too.
"As I wrote in my two-round mock there's a chance Carter goes in Round 1. Cornerback is another position to watch at No. 39."
If McShay were drafting for the Bears, he wrote that he would pick Georgia inside linebacker Roquan Smith at No. 8 and Ohio State center/guard Billy Price at No. 39.
