Leno gets engaged on field after win

For Charles Leno Jr., "NFC North champions" certainly has a nice ring to it.

Minutes after the Bears clinched the division title Sunday with a win over the Packers, the veteran left tackle proposed to his girlfriend, Jennifer Roth, at midfield.

She said yes.

"It's been a long time coming," Leno said. "I knew it was going to come, and what a perfect moment to do it. She was surprised. She was shaking and crying."

Leno was planning on proposing in the near future but said that "once I found out we could clinch this week, I had to speed things up. I had to speed up the process."

Leno was so amped about the game and the proposal that he committed a false start penalty on the Bears' first play. He overcame the mistake quickly and helped the Bears clinch their first division title and earn their first playoff berth since 2010.

Leno said that he still would have proposed had the Bears lost but was confident they would win the game. "I just had a feeling," he said. "I knew by the way we prepared this week, I knew our team was ready."

Winning the NFC North and getting engaged is something Leno will never forget.

"It's easily up there as one of the best days of my life," he said.
