General manager Ryan Poles spoke with Jeff Joniak Thursday on the Bears pregame radio show on ESPN 1000 AM and 100.3 HD2 FM.
Poles gave his thoughts on defensive end Montez Sweat's first performance with the Bears. Last Sunday against the Saints, Sweat recorded a pair of tackles and a pass defensed.
"For limited practice, for sudden change – I mean we don't talk about that enough with trades," Poles said. "Guys get just plucked out of one place and moved to the other. Everything is unfamiliar from the facilities to the hotel they're staying in. There's a lot of change, so for the limited amount of time he was able to prepare and get a good night's rest, I was impressed with his ability to press the pocket.
"He had a batted ball there on third down which is critical for us to get off the field. The one piece that stood out the most was his backside chase down in the fourth quarter. If your highest paid player on your team is making plays like that, it becomes contagious and other guys know they gotta continue to elevate their game and play at that same level."
The Bears defense will get another boost Thursday night as safety Jaquan Brisker will play after missing the last two games with a concussion. Poles expressed his excitement for the 2022 second-round pick to get back with the team.
"Jaquan is a huge part of our team," Poles said. "He brings the energy. He brings the aggression and violence to our defense. It feels different when he's on the football field. So it's encouraging to get him back. I'm excited to see him play tonight. For him to put the back half of this season together, it's going to be important. He made so many strides this offseason. It's been a little bit choppy so it's going to be really great for us to see him play the back half of the season."
