Bears players with Canadian ties
With the Bears signing former CFL cornerback Tre Roberson, senior writer Larry Mayer lists notable current and former Bears with Canadian ties.

Bronko Nagurski, fullback
The Pro Football Hall of Famer, who helped lead the Bears to three NFL championships in the 1930s and '40s, was born in Rainy River, Ontario, before moving across the border to International Falls, Minn., when he was five years old.

J.C. Caroline, defensive back
Caroline spent 10 seasons with the Bears from 1956-65, helping them win the 1963 NFL title. But he started his pro football career in the CFL in 1955 with the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes.

Ed O'Bradovich, defensive end
O'Bradovich played for the Calgary Stampeders and B.C. Lions in 1961 before spending his entire 10-year NFL career with the Bears from 1962-71.

Noah Jackson, guard
Jackson was a key member of the Bears' offensive line from 1975-83. But before that he spent three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts and was named a CFL all-star in 1974.

Tyrone Keys, defensive lineman
Keys spent three seasons with the Bears from 1983-85, serving as a backup on the Super Bowl XX team, after playing two years north of the border with the B.C. Lions.

Doug Flutie, quarterback
After two seasons with the Bears in 1986-87, Flutie headed north and became one of the greatest players in CFL history. He was named the league's most outstanding player a record six times and won three Grey Cup championships.

Henry Burris, quarterback
Burris struggled in his only season with the Bears in 2002. But during an illustrious 18-year career in the CFL he was twice named the league's most outstanding player, won three championships and was a seven-time all-star.

Todd McMillon, cornerback
McMillon played in 48 games over five seasons with the Bears from 2000-04 as a backup defensive back and special-teams contributor after spending three years up north with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Israel Idonije, defensive lineman
Idonije, who spent 10 seasons with the Bears from 2003-12, never played in the CFL. But he grew up in Manitoba, attended the University of Manitoba and became the first Manitoba native to play in the Super Bowl.

Chris Williams, receiver
A 101-yard kickoff return touchdown against the Packers in 2014 was the highlight of Williams' brief stint with the Bears. But during seven years in the CFL, he was named the league's most outstanding rookie in 2011 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and won a championship with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2016.

Akiem Hicks, defensive tackle
Hicks is a California native who never played in the CFL. But the Bears star spent his college career at the University of Regina in Saskatchewan before being selected by the Saints in the third round of the 2012 draft.

Ka'Deem Carey, running back
Carey spent three seasons with the Bears from 2014-16, rushing for 443 yards and two touchdowns in 36 games. He joined the Calgary Stampeders late in the 2018 season and rushed for 422 yards and two TDs in the first eight games in 2019 before being lost for the season with a broken arm.

Brent Urban, defensive end
Urban, who joined the Bears midway through the 2019 season, was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario. He was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2013, but has yet to play in the CFL.
