On New York's second offensive snap, Ryan Mundy intercepted Geno Smith's screen pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bears a 7-0 lead just 32 seconds into the game.
Ahmad Dixon falls on a muffed punt return by the Jets' Jalen Saunders, extending Chicago's offensive drive.
Jay Cutler escaped the Jets pass rush and found Martellus Bennett in the end zone, extending the Bears lead to 14-0.
Midway through the first quarter, Bears rookie defensive tackle Ego Ferguson ripped through the offensive line and took down Smith for his first career sack.
Robbie Gould responds to Nick Folk's 43-yard field goal with a 24-yard field goal of his own to make it 17-3.
A 28-yard field goal, followed by a 19-yard touchdown to Jeremy Kerley cut Chicago's lead to 17-13.
Cutler is sacked by Jets linebacker Davis Harris. After a challenge flag is thrown, it is determined Cutler fumbled before hitting the ground, giving the ball to New York.
