The Bears reached the NFL's mandatory 53-man limit Saturday by trimming 36 players from their roster, including receivers Bennie Fowler III and Tanner Gentry, inside linebackers Jonathan Anderson and John Timu and nickel back Cre'Von LeBlanc.
Seven vested veterans had their contracts terminated: Fowler, quarterback Tyler Bray, running back Knile Davis, offensive lineman Matt McCants, defensive linemen John Jenkins and Nick Williams and outside linebacker Kasim Edebali.
The Bears waived 25 players, including Gentry, Timu, LeBlanc, running backs Taquan Mizzell and Ryan Nall and offensive lineman Jordan Morgan.
The others were receivers Demarcus Ayers, Garrett Johnson and Malachi Jones; tight end Colin Thompson; offensive linemen Dejon Allen, Brandon Greene, and Will Pericak; defensive linemen Abdullah Anderson and Cavon Walker; linebackers Ro'Derrick Hoskins, Elijah Norris and Josh Woods; defensive backs Doran Grant, Michael Joseph, Jonathon Mincy and Nick Orr; long-snapper Tanner Carew; and punter Ryan Winslow.
Anderson and defensive back Richard Fant were waived/injured.
Receiver Marlon Brown was placed on injured reserve.
Safety Deiondre' Hall was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional 2019 seventh-round draft pick.
The Bears kept only two quarterbacks in Mitchell Trubisky and Chase Daniel, and three running backs in Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen and Benny Cunningham. Last year three quarterbacks and four running backs initially made the 53-man roster. Fullback Michael Burton also survived final cuts.
They kept six receivers in Allen Robinson II, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller, Kevin White, Joshua Bellamy and Javon Wims.
Five tight ends also made the 53-man roster: Trey Burton, Dion Sims, Adam Shaheen, Daniel Brown and Ben Braunecker.
The Bears kept nine offensive linemen in Charles Leno, Jr., Eric Kush, Cody Whitehair, Kyle Long, Bobby Massie, James Daniels, Rashaad Coward, Hroniss Grasu and Bradley Sowell.
Five defensive linemen made the final roster in Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman, Jonathan Bullard, Bilal Nichols and Roy Robertson-Harris.
Outside linebackers include Leonard Floyd, Sam Acho, Aaron Lynch, Kylie Fitts and Isaiah Irving. The Bears received a roster exemption for Khalil Mack, a three-time Pro Bowler who was acquired Saturday in a blockbuster trade with the Oakland Raiders.
Inside linebackers include Danny Trevathan, Roquan Smith, Nick Kwiatkoski and Joel Iyiegbuniwe.
The Bears kept 10 defensive backs: cornerbacks Prince Amukamara, Marcus Cooper Sr., Kyle Fuller, Sherrick McManis, Bryce Callahan and Kevin Toliver II; and safeties Eddie Jackson, Adrian Amos, Deon Bush and DeAndre Houston-Carson.
The Bears kept all seven of their draft picks in Smith, Daniels, Miller, Iyiegbuniwe, Nichols, Fitts and Wims. Toliver was the only undrafted rookie to make the roster.
Of the 53 players on the roster, 47 have been acquired since Ryan Pace became Bears general manager in 2015. The exceptions are Bellamy, Fuller, Leno, Long, McManis and O'Donnell.
The Bears can establish a 10-man practice squad on Sunday and also can claim players who've been waived by other NFL teams. In past seasons, the Bears have typically stocked their practice squad primarily with players they released during final cuts.
