Bears cornerback Josh Blackwell has been named the NFC special teams player of the week after returning a punt 94 yards for a touchdown in last Sunday's 24-22 win over the Packers.

Blackwell's first NFL TD came on a trick play. DJ Moore dropped back to return a punt. But when the ball was in the air, he drifted to his left, faking out Green Bay's coverage team because the punt was actually headed to the other side of the field.

Blackwell initially blocked a gunner downfield. He then whirled around and made an over-the-shoulder catch of the ball, reversed his field and dashed untouched down the right sideline, escorted by Jack Sanborn and Tarvarius Moore, among others.

Blackwell's 94-yard return is tied for the third longest by a Bears player since at least 1948 and was the second longest in the NFL this season.

According to Next Gen Stats, Blackwell covered 138.3 yards on the play, the longest distance traveled by a ballcarrier on a touchdown since Sept. 29, 2019, when Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland ran 141.0 yards while returning a fumble 100 yards for a score in a win over the Lions.

Blackwell also assisted on a special teams tackle in the game. The third-year pro is the third Bears player to garner NFC special teams player of the week honors this season, joining punter Tory Taylor in Week 4 and tight end Cole Kmet in Week 6.

Kmet was honored after filling in at long-snapper after Scott Daly exited with an injury early in a win over the Jaguars in London. In addition, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was named NFC defensive player of the week in Week 1.
