The Bears on Tuesday promoted receiver Isaiah Coulter from the practice squad to the active roster and waived receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette.
Coulter has appeared in four NFL games, one with the Texans in 2020 and three with the Bears last season.
The 6-2, 198-pounder was selected by Houston in the fifth round of the 2020 draft out of Rhode Island. After spending his rookie season with the Texans, he signed with the Bears Aug. 22, 2021, and spent most of last season and the first six weeks of this season on their practice squad.
Smith-Marsette was waived after making three costly mistakes in the Bears' last two games. In a loss to the Vikings, he was flagged for an illegal block, negating Justin Fields' 52-yard touchdown run, and then lost a fumble with the Bears trailing 29-22. He then dropped a fourth-down pass in last Thursday night's loss to the Commanders.
The Bears on Tuesday also signed tight end Sammis Reyes to their practice squad. The first Chilean-born player in NFL history, he appeared in 11 games with one start for the Commanders last season, playing primarily on special teams. The 6-5, 260-pounder did not play college football; he played basketball at Tulane and Loyola-New Orleans.
