The Bears on Saturday placed offensive lineman Ryan Bates on injured reserve, signed long snapper Scott Daly from the practice squad and elevated receiver Collin Johnson from the practice squad.
Bates split time at right guard with Nate Davis in last Sunday's season-opening win over the Titans at Soldier Field. Bates must remain on injured reserve for at least four games, meaning that he will be eligible to return for the Bears' Week 6 contest versus the Jaguars in London.
Daly will serve as the team's long snapper for the second straight game Sunday night in Houston in place of the injured Patrick Scales, who is recovering from back surgery.
Johnson excelled in the Hall of Fame Game Aug. 1 against the Texans, catching touchdown passes of 20 and nine yards from Brett Rypien in a 21-17 victory. But the 6-6, 222-pound receiver missed the rest of the preseason with an injury.
Johnson was elevated to the active roster because receivers Keenan Allen (heel) and Rome Odunze (knee) are both listed as questionable on the injury report for Sunday night's contest against the Texans and will be game-time decisions.
