The Bears on Saturday ruled nose tackle Eddie Goldman out of Sunday night's season opener against the Rams while also flexing linebacker Josh Woods and defensive tackle Damion Square from the practice squad to the active roster.
Goldman had been listed as doubtful on the injury report after not practicing all week due to a knee injury he sustained in Monday's workout. He did not travel with the team to Los Angeles.
Woods was waived Monday and signed to the practice squad Tuesday. He originally joined the Bears in 2018 as an undrafted free agent from Maryland. After spending his rookie year on the practice squad, he appeared in 24 games, all as a reserve, the past two seasons, registering 19 tackles.
The Bears signed Square to their practice squad Wednesday. He has played in 91 NFL games with 24 starts in seven seasons with the Eagles (2013), Chiefs (2014) and Chargers (2014-20), recording 120 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 sacks. Square also spent time with the Browns and Saints this summer. The 6-2, 293-pounder entered the NFL with Philadelphia in 2013 as an undrafted free agent from Alabama.
For the second straight year due to COVID-19, NFL teams are permitted to elevate up to two players from their practice squad to their active roster prior to 3 p.m. (CT) the day before a game without having to place any players on waivers.
