Top 10: Bears free agent signings
With NFL free agency beginning Wednesday, senior writer Larry Mayer ranks the top 10 free agents the Bears have signed from other teams since the league instituted free agency in 1993.

(10) Allen Robinson II, receiver
Robinson played like a true No. 1 receiver in his first season with the Bears in 2018, rebounding from a torn ACL that cost him most of the 2017 campaign when he was with the Jaguars to catch 55 passes for 754 yards and four touchdowns.

(9) Ted Washington, defensive tackle
Washington played only one full season with the Bears, but it was a great one. The mammoth nose tackle was named first-team All-Pro and voted to the Pro Bowl in 2001 after helping lead the Bears to a 13-3 record and the NFC Central Division title.

(8) Danny Trevathan, inside linebacker
Since arriving in 2016, Trevathan has been a key component in the emergence of the Bears' defense as one of the league's best. He was voted a Pro Bowl alternate in 2018 after recording 102 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and eight tackles-for-loss.

(7) Erik Kramer, quarterback
Kramer spent five seasons with the Bears from 1994-98, throwing for 10,582 yards with 63 touchdowns, 45 interceptions and an 80.7 passer rating. In 1995, he set single-season team passing records that still stand with 3,838 yards and 29 touchdowns.

(6) Martellus Bennett, tight end
Bennett spent three seasons with the Bears from 2013-15, catching 208 passes for 2,114 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2014 when he compiled 90 receptions for 916 yards and six TDs.

(5) Ruben Brown, guard
Brown spent four seasons with the Bears from 2004-07. He helped them win back-to-back NFC North titles in 2005-06 and reach the Super Bowl in 2006, when he was voted to the Pro Bowl after starting all 16 games.

(4) Akiem Hicks, defensive tackle
Since joining the Bears in 2016, Hicks has emerged as one of the top players on one of the NFL's best defenses. He was voted to his first Pro Bowl in 2018 after compiling 7.5 sacks and a team-leading 12 tackles-for-loss.

(3) Thomas Jones, running back
Jones played three seasons with the Bears from 2004-06, rushing for 3,493 yards and 22 touchdowns and catching 118 passes for 724 yards. At the time, his 1,335 yards in 2005 were the most by a Bears player other than Walter Payton.

(2) Tim Jennings, cornerback
Jennings was selected to back-to-back Pro Bowls during five seasons with the Bears from 2010-14. He earned that recognition by recording a league-leading nine interceptions in 2012 and following with four picks in 2013.

(1) Julius Peppers, defensive end
In four seasons with the Bears from 2010-13, Peppers recorded 37.5 sacks, was voted to three Pro Bowls and was named All-Pro in 2010.
