Bears receiver Keenan Allen is playing his best football of the season.
In the last two games, the 12-year NFL veteran has caught 15 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns. His five TD receptions in the last five contests are tied for the second most in the league during that span.
"He's playing well," said interim offensive coordinator and receivers coach Chris Beatty. "He's doing what Keenan Allen does and making plays."
That was evident Sunday against the Lions when Allen caught nine passes for 141 yards, highlighted by a 45-yard touchdown that was quarterback Caleb Williams' longest scoring pass of his rookie season. In addition, it was the most yards Allen has compiled since Nov. 11, 2023, when he played for the Chargers and amassed 175 yards on 11 receptions, also versus Detroit.
Top tackler
Veteran linebacker T.J. Edwards is in the midst of another productive season. The sixth-year pro leads the Bears with 119 tackles and 10 tackles-for-loss and has also registered 3.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
"Just an intense guy, highly intelligent, accountable, leader through his actions," said defensive coordinator Eric Washington. "You can really depend on him. Really good communicator. Bound and determined to get you information in terms of what they're seeing and how that can affect our plan going forward and the adjustments we need to make."
Good first outing
Special teams coordinator Richard Hightower was impressed with how second-year pro Tyler Scott performed Sunday against the Lions.
After being inactive in five of the previous eight games, Scott averaged 24.0 yards on three kickoff returns with a long of 29 yards. It was the first time that the 2023 fourth-round pick has returned kickoffs this season.
"I thought Tyler made some strides," Hightower said. "He did a nice job as a gunner. Tory [Taylor] hit two of those punts and Tyler forced fair catches on both of them down there—one at the 7 and one at the 12-yard line. I thought he did a really nice job with his release at the line of scrimmage as a gunner, and I thought he did a really nice job as a returner making really good decisions.
"What he will tell you is that he probably should get more [yards] on a couple of those returns, which is what we want him in that state. We always want him to get more. He's eager. He's hungry. But I thought he had a good first outing."
Injury update
The Bears held a walkthrough Tuesday for the second straight day in advance of Thursday night's home game against the Seahawks. Had they conducted a full practice, running back Travis Homer (hamstring), left guard Teven Jenkins (calf) and safeties Elijah Hicks (ankle/foot) and Tarvarius Moore (knee) would not have been able to participate.
Guard/center Doug Kramer Jr. (shoulder), defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. (knee) and linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga (hip) would have been limited.
Roster move
The Bears on Tuesday signed safety Adrian Colbert to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. He has appeared in three games this season — all in the last four weeks — playing exclusively on special teams.
