Tremaine Edmunds is poised to make history Sunday when the Bears host the Vikings.

The veteran linebacker will become the youngest player in NFL history (26 years, 206 days) to appear in his 100th career regular-season game.

"I'll tell you it would mean a whole lot [more] once we get the win," Edmunds said. "That's definitely a good stat. I'm definitely going to be feeling good. I think it will really set in when I'm celebrating in the locker room with my teammates. So as good as that sounds, a 'W' on the board would feel a whole lot better."

When Edmunds was selected by the Bills in 2018, he became the second youngest player to be drafted in NFL history at 19 years, 11 months. The only younger draft pick was Amobi Okoye at 19 years, 10 months in 2007. Okoye played 87 NFL games over six seasons with the Texans (2007-10) and Bears (2011-12).

As a 20-year-old rookie, Edmunds became the youngest player in NFL history to intercept a pass when he picked off the Jets' Sam Darnold.

On the move

The Bears utilized more pre-snap motions last Sunday against the Packers than they had in previous games.

"You can use motion for various reasons and the obvious ones are create run advantages," said coach Matt Eberflus. "That's what you want to do. You create numbers and you create advantages in the run game. And I think we did a really good job of that last week …

"And then there's advantages in the pass game. If you're throwing perimeter screens, you get an extra blocker out there, wherever it might be. Or you're creating the mismatch or the matchup that you want, and that's why you do it."

"We did it this past weekend and you saw those mismatches that we had and getting people in space to go make plays," added receiver DJ Moore. "We want more of it. Does it make you more tired? Yeah, but oh well, it's helping the team."

Injury update

Running back D'Andre Swift (groin), guard Ryan Bates (concussion), offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie (calf) and safety Elijah Hicks (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. Guard Teven Jenkins (ankle) was limited.

Eberflus described Swift's injury as "a little bit of a groin strain" and said he's hopeful the running back will be able to play against Minnesota.

"We've got to give him some rest," Eberflus said. "Those guys torque their legs and do a really good job, and he's a high-twitch guy, so we've just got to do a really good job of resting him the next day or two to make sure he's ready to go."

Roster moves

The Bears on Wednesday promoted receiver Collin Johnson from the practice squad to the active roster and re-signed safety Adrian Colbert to the practice squad.

Johnson has appeared in two games this season, playing three snaps on offense and 19 on special teams in Weeks 2-3 against the Texans and Colts.

Colbert has spent parts of the past three seasons with the Bears, appearing in two games in 2022. He was released Aug 27.

The Bears were back on the practice fields at Halas Hall to continue their preparation for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.
