Bears kicker Cairo Santos has been named the NFC special teams player of the month for December.

In four games, Santos made nine field goals without a miss, helping the Bears register three straight victories over the Texans, Vikings and Jaguars to put themselves in position to earn a wild card berth in the playoffs.

Santos finished the regular season making his final 27 field-goal attempts—last missing in a Week 3 win in Atlanta—to eclipse Robbie Gould's Bears record of 26 in a row set in 2005-06.

Santos established another single-season team mark by converting 93.8 percent of his field-goal tries (30-of-32). Gould had set the previous record of 89.7 percent in 2008 and then matched it in 2013, making 26-of-29 field-goal attempts in both seasons.

The Bears have now had a player named NFC special teams player of the month for the second straight year. Cordarrelle Patterson was honored in November 2019 for his performance as a kick returner and gunner on the punt coverage team.

Santos is the first Bears kicker to be selected as NFC special teams player of the month since Gould in December 2008.

K Cairo Santos becomes the latest member of the organization to be named NFC player of the month, marking the 25th time in franchise history a Bears player has received the honor.
