The Bears will face off against the Patriots Sunday at Soldier Field without their two starting offensive tackles.
Left tackle Braxton Jones (knee) , who did not practice Wednesday or Friday, will miss his second consecutive game after suffering an injury Oct. 27 against the Commanders. Right tackle Darnell Wright (knee), who sustained an injury during the fourth quarter in Arizona last Sunday, was unable to practice at all this week. Coach Matt Eberflus told reporters that Jones and Wright "just didn't have enough time to get back to where we needed them to be."
While the Bears will also be without backup tackle Kiran Amegadjie (calf), who did not practice this week and has been ruled out for Sunday, they will gain a veteran member of the offensive line back in guard/center Ryan Bates.
Eberflus told reporters Friday that Bates will be activated from injured reserve before Sunday's game.
"He's going to be activated, so it's going to be good to have some depth in there and some different pieces in there," Eberflus said. "Obviously with our injuries, we're going to need that for sure."
Bates was placed on IR Sept. 15 following the Bears' season-opening win over the Titans where he split reps at right guard with Nate Davis. The sixth-year pro told reporters Friday that he's been itching to be back on the field with his teammates since getting hurt, which marked the first time in his career he was placed on IR.
"I feel great," Bates said. "Feel good. It's nice to be back, like I said, playing football. I was driving myself crazy being on IR, but it's nice to be back."
In the secondary, safety Jaquan Brisker remains in concussion protocol and will miss his fourth consecutive game, but nickel back Kyler Gordon (hamstring) and cornerback Terell Smith (ankle) were full participants in Friday's practice and do not have injury designations for Sunday.
While Eberflus praised backup cornerbacks Reddy Steward and Josh Blackwell for how they stepped up during Gordon's two-week absence, the coach is excited to see the third-year pro back on the field.
"It's great to have Gordon back," Eberflus said. "He's had a good week of practice. He's very dynamic in terms of his pass coverage, in terms of his pressure ability. Does a really great job. Brings a lot of great energy. And he's got ballhawk skills. He's a really good player.
The defensive line will have Pro Bowl pass rusher Montez Sweat (shin) back versus the Patriots after he missed last week's game. Defensive end Darrell Taylor (knee) is questionable after not practicing Friday. He was a limited participant both Wednesday and Thursday.
Linebacker Noah Sewell (knee) is also listed as questionable while guard Teven Jenkins (knee) was a full participant in practice all week and has no injury designation for Sunday.
