Injury Update: Keenan Allen expected to return vs. Rams

Bears receiver Keenan Allen (heel) practiced without restrictions Friday after being limited Wednesday and Thursday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's home game against the Rams.

Coach Matt Eberflus told reporters that he expects Allen to play after missing the last two games.

"Yeah, we do," Eberflus said. "He was full today. Looked good today. He's been working back in the whole week, so we anticipate that."

Allen revealed that his heel injury is similar to the one that sidelined him for the final four games last season when he played for the Chargers. He said it began bothering him again during training camp and he aggravated it during the season opener against the Titans when he made an abrupt stop during a play.

"Right before the joint practice with the Bengals it started irritating me, just a wear-and-tear type of deal," Allen said. "It got worse throughout the Titans game.

"It's just irritating. It's kind of like a hamstring pull; you can't really do anything about it. You've got to wait until it heals up."

Left tackle Braxton Jones (knee) and right tackle Darnell Wright (back) both practiced in full Friday after being limited Thursday and were not given injury designations. Right guard Nate Davis (groin) worked out without restrictions for the second straight day after being limited Wednesday, but Eberflus said that Matt Pryor would make his second consecutive start at right guard Sunday.

"We just liked [Pryor's] performance last week, in terms of the size, being firm in the pocket there and being able to move some people," Eberflus said. "I thought that was good, and we think that's a good option for us."

Defensive tackle Andrew Billings (knee) and safety Kevin Byard III (back) returned to practice on a limited basis Friday after sitting out Thursday and are listed as questionable.

"We're hopeful with [Byard]," Eberflus said. "The same thing with Billings. He looked good today. We anticipate him being good, but we'll see where it goes from here. We're talking about those guys potentially working out before the game."

Tight end Stephen Carlson (collarbone), defensive tackle Zacch Pickens (groin) and cornerback Terell Smith (groin) have been ruled out of Sunday's game.

Eberflus said that Carlson sustained a serious injury in practice Thursday, one day after he had been signed to the active roster from the practice squad.

"I've got to talk to Ryan [Poles] and those guys to see if he's going to go to IR," Eberflus said. "But on a catch, the last catch of the practice, ended up hurting his shoulder. It's unfortunate. I was texting him last night. He just got up to the 53 and then that happened the very next day. It's unfortunate for him, but his spirits are good. He'll be back. We'll see what we're going to do with him shortly."

Other Bears who practiced in full Friday and were not given injury designations after sitting out or being limited earlier in the week were fullback Khari Blasingame (hand/knee), receiver Rome Odunze (hip) and defensive ends Montez Sweat (elbow) and Darrell Taylor (knee/illness).

The Bears were back on the practice fields at Halas Hall to continue their preparation for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams at Soldier Field.
